My name is Sam Strickland. I am a documentary photographer. I live in East London and for the next five months i’ll be working on a project about the impact of migration on the Sylheti community in London and Bangladesh. I did a degree in History and Journalism before working for a couple of years as a photographer.
I had some good clients. I worked for the National Portrait Gallery, the NHS, AMREF (Uganda), Mencap etc. unfortunately that does not equate to being a good photographer.
After this humiliating struggle I decided to do an MA in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism – I almost did a press photography course in Sheffield. I’m very glad I did not. The MA is good. The best bit is meeting the other photographers and travelling to Elephant and Castle which I really enjoy especially during rush hour.
I’m from Yorkshire, something I’m irrationally proud of.
